On 27 September, the International Criminal Court Bar Association (ICCBA) provided its response to the ICC Registry's questionnaire regarding the Court's Revised Victims' Strategy. This response provides recommendations aimed at improving the Court’s approach to victim participation and ensuring that victims' voices are more effectively heard throughout ICC proceedings.
In its response, the ICCBA emphasizes the need for a comprehensive and actionable Victims' Strategy that addresses the real and evolving challenges victims face within the Rome Statute system.
Key areas highlighted in the response include improving outreach to victim communities, ensuring consistent and quality legal representation for victims, and enhancing their participation, particularly in the early stages of ICC proceedings.
The ICCBA’s submission is a part of the wider consultation process initiated by the ICC in mid-August 2024 to update its Victims' Strategy. The ICCBA looks forward to continued dialogue with the ICC and other stakeholders.
